Our Core Values

Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Doulos Missions Institute

Mission

Doulos Missions Institute develops and equips committed Filipino Christians who are called to proclaim the Gospel and become prepared, faithful, and fruitful Bible Translators, Evangelism, Apologetics, Polemics, and mercy ministry leaders, teaming together with cross-cultural Church Planters to plant churches among the most difficult to reach people and language groups of the Philippines, and to make an impact in their communities for the glory of God.

Vision

Doulos Missions Institute will be a center of excellence in the Philippines for Bible Translation, Evangelism, Apologetics, Polemics, mercy ministry, and cross-cultural Church Planting, developing and equipping Filipino Christians who have been called to the ministry into leaders and pioneers to plant churches in the hardest places where the Gospel has not yet reached.

Core Values

These are the Core Values for DMI Staff, Students, and Alumni. While we recognize that we will never be perfect in any of these, we shall always be striving to these values, and will give grace to each other as God has given grace to us.

Our Hearts

Dependent on Grace, Love in Truth, Strength through Humility

Dependent on Grace

We are saved by Grace alone, and not any of our efforts. And since we depend on God’s grace, none of us should boast in our accomplishments or sanctification. We shall put our hope for all things in God’s sovereignty and his amazing grace. For unless the Lord does build His missions, we strive in vain.

(Acts 15:7-11, Rom Ch 3, Gal 2:16-21, Eph 2:1-10)

Love in Truth

We shall love without hypocrisy. We shall be kind, patient, hope for and believe the best of others. We shall not dominate, or envy, or demean, or resent, or be rude to anyone. We shall willingly associate ourselves with the lowly and hurting. We shall be ready to forgive or to ask forgiveness with a glad and humble heart. We shall love even our enemies as we love ourselves. For the world will know Jesus by how we love one another. In this, we shall not love wickedness or evil doing, but shall bring loving and Godly reproof and correction as guided by the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, we ourselves shall always be ready for Godly correction and reproof, even if it is from those who are junior to us.

(Rom 12:9-21, Gal 5:13-14, 1Cor 13, Luke 6:27-38, Matt 6:14-15, 18:21-22, Pro 27:17)

Strength through Humility

We shall follow our Lord Jesus in humility, putting others before ourselves. We shall not be prideful. We shall lift-up others and not glorify ourselves. For in heaven, the last shall be first and the first shall be last. In this, however, we shall be bold in our work for our Lord, knowing that in our weakness His power is shown. We shall not allow our pride or worry of our reputation to keep us from pursuing bold excellence in His name. We are strong in our Lord and we shall live in that strength.

(Exo Ch3-4:17, Phil 2:1-11, 1Cor 1:26-31, 2 Cor 10-12:10, Luke 14:8-11, 1Cor 10:24, James 4:6, Rom 12:3-7)

Our Lives

Devotion to God, Pursuing Purity, Service in Faith

Devotion to God

We shall be daily devoted to the word of God, and to prayer, and to the spread of the Gospel, fulfilling the Great Commission. We shall live in prayer and God’s word first, and always. We shall not forsake it as this is our sustenance.

(2 Tim 3:16-17, Psa 119:18 & 105, Rom 12:12, Eph 6:18, 1 Thess 5:17, Matt 28:18-20)

Pursuing Purity

We shall remain pure in our hearts, minds, words, and actions, with lives above reproach. We shall flee from wickedness, from the temptations and lusts of pornography, adultery, fornication, sexual perversions, foul language, unrighteous anger, violence, greed, and bribery or lawbreaking. We shall be open and honest with all our works and our lives as unto the Lord, and thus there shall be no hidden sins among us, whether with a junior student or the missions board president. We shall live our lives transparently and honestly.

(Col 1:22, Matt 5:28, Rom 13:13, 1 Cor 6:9, Heb 13:4, Eph 5:3, Eph 4:29 & 5:4, Col 3:8, James 3:10, Eph 4:31, James 1:19-20, Tit 1:7, Psa 11:15, Rom 1:29, 1 Tim 3:3, Gal 5:19-21, 1Cor 5:10, 6:10, 1Tim 3:8, Tit 1:7, Duet 16:19, Luke 3:14, Pro 28:13, Eph 5:11-12, 1 John 1:9)

Service in Faith

We shall seek to serve others before ourselves. We shall not try to dominate or take advantage of others, especially if we are placed in authority over them. We shall treat even the lowliest servant with the same respect and love as we would a nation’s President. We shall be generous with the blessings that God has given us. We shall not live lives that serve power, money, or pleasure or live firstly for our own benefit. We shall not covet but rejoice in the blessings God has given each person.

(Phil 2:3-4, 1 Peter 5:1-4, Mark 10:42-45, Eph 6:9, Col 4:1, Job 31:13-16, 1 Tim 6:18, Ps 112:5, 2 Cor 9:11, Matt 6:19-24, 1 Tim 3:3, Exo 20:17, Eph 5:3, James 4:2)

Our Work

Creative, Competent, Committed

Creative

Always strive to learn more, discover more, creating new ideas or reforming old processes, and solving challenges with the full capacity and opportunities God has given you. Never be comfortable with doing things simply because that is the way it was done before. Instead, be bold in your excellence for our Lord.

Competent

Always strive to perform your tasks with the most excellence and quality that our Lord’s gifting has given you capacity for. Always be striving for more excellence and higher quality. There shall never be laziness, ignoring of or willful ignorance of proper process, procedures, regulations, laws, and best practices.

Committed

Always strive to put your full strength, mind and body, into the work our Lord has given you. Always be dedicated fully to the mission that our Lord has given us. At the same time, always prioritize consistent and effective patterns of rest and rejuvenation, as this is a command of our Lord. All success is of the Lord, not of our hands. Do not forsake resting in the Lord, caring for your family, and rejuvenating your mind and body.

Our Results

Effective, Enduring, Efficient

Effective

Always strive to make your work meet the organization’s objectives in a clear measurable way. Never do work or projects just to do something or to make it appear like there is success.

Enduring

Always strive to ensure that your work and your planning produces results to last the test of time. Never look for quick results that are easy to show off but cannot be scaled or are ineffective over time.

Efficient

Always strive to use the minimum resources needed to the maximum effect possible in support of effective and enduring mission goals. Do not be wasteful with the time, funds, and people the Lord has given us.
